New statement-making exhibit debuts

The founding of the modern nation of Israel was a "catastrophe," according to a new exhibit opening today at the United Methodist Building on Capitol Hill. The display, "60 Years of Dispossession" chronicles the Nakba, the Palestinian word for catastrophe used to describe Israel's founding, an event which is reviled in the Arab world.

The photo exhibit highlights a mass deportation of Palestinians, massacres of civilians and the razing to the ground of hundreds of Palestinian villages. It is appearing in the lobby of the United Methodist Building February 3–24.

Hamas wages war

Please pray for Christians—and all the innocent people—who are caught in the war between Hamas and Israel.

Hamas wants the complete destruction of Israel, and has provoked the war that is producing a growing number of civilian casualties. Casualties Hamas uses in the propaganda war.

There can only be the defeat of Hamas…or another war to come. Every time Israel negotiates, more violence results.

Only when there is no benefit to Hamas’ aggression will there be peace.

Pray for peace in Jerusalem.

Reflection

"Get along among yourselves, each of you doing your part. Our counsel is that you warn the freeloaders to get a move on.

"Gently encourage the stragglers, and reach out for the exhausted, pulling them to their feet.

"Be patient with each person, attentive to individual needs. And be careful that when you get on each other's nerves you don't snap at each other.

"Look for the best in each other, and always do your best to bring it out. Be cheerful no matter what; pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens.

"This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live."

—1 Thessalonians 5:15–18
