Thursday, 31 January 2008

Mennonite families sending their children to a Christian school are being forced to close their school by the Quebec Canada Ministry of Education.

Parents were told the school must include an approved curriculum that was pro-homosexual and pro-evolution.

The parents are afraid if they ignore this government command, social workers may take their children.

Korean Missionary Hostages Released—But at What Cost? PDF Print Email

Monday, 07 January 2008

Thanks for your prayers for the 21 South Korean hostages as they suffered over 6 weeks of captivity and 2 losses of life. It's suspected the Taliban were finally paid money to release the hostages, but it's not confirmed.

But we do know the South Korean government...

Promised to withdraw its troops from Afghanistan by the end of the year (which they were going to do anyway).

Agreed to withdraw all current Christian missionaries in Afghanistan and prohibit any future missionaries from going.

About 25% of the Korean population is Christian. And today over 15,000 Korean missionaries are operating in 165 countries.

Besides removing the Korean missionaries, the Korean government has also...

Shown it will negotiate with terrorists.

Opened the door for the capture of missionaries in other countries.

Helped create criticism of the Korean church and its "insensitivity" to cultural difference.

Incidentally, the surviving missionaries went through terrible torture by the Taliban. They were forced to work like slaves, beaten repeatedly and ordered at gunpoint to recite the Islamic prayer for conversion.

Finally...Relief for Darfur PDF Print Email

Christians have been praying, fasting and raising their voices against the genocide of millions in Darfur.

I'm proud of my son Caleb who, along with thousands of kids from church groups, raised their voices in pubic protest against this modern-day horror.

President Bush has come out fully to help stop the flow of cash to the Sudanese government that's participating in the killings and preventing humanitarian relief. Sadly, Bush is the only world leader taking a stand.

Pray for God to give President Bush wisdom and courage on this issue.

Pray for Christians in Vietnam

Recently, the president of Vietnam visited Orange County among protests.

One of the issues is that persecution of Christians in Vietnam is increasing. Nguyen Van Dai and Le Thi Cong Nhan are Christian lawyers defending other Christians who are being persecuted. In early March, they were arrested and haven't been seen since. They are charged with "propagandizing" against the Vietnamese Republic.

Pray for their safety and release and for other brothers and sisters in Christ in Vietnam.

Zimbabwe Persecution PDF Print Email

Please add your brothers and sisters in Christ living in Zimbabwe to your prayer list.

Under the socialist government of Robert Mugabe:

  • Inflation is running 1.593%
  • Unemployment is over 80%
  • Operation "Take Out the Trash" had the government bulldozing houses, creating thousands of homeless victims
  • No rights are protected

No one can meet for prayer or Bible studies in groups greater than 3 without police approval.

The Rev. Dr. Roy Musasiwa helped publish a widely disliked report called The Natural Vision Discussion to shed light on this tragedy—at great risk to himself.

"We long for peace," Musasiwa said. "Would it not be great to live in a country where you can associate with any political party of your choice without fearing victimization, being tortured or raped, or having bombs thrown into your house?

"Or what about having the freedom to gather for prayer without the fear of being arrested?"

Despite the threats of violence, jail or death, Christians are still gathering to pray and discuss issues. Many Christians and pastors are now in jail.

Let's pray for them and for revival in Zimbabwe.

Worldwide Persecution of Christian Groups PDF Print Email

The annual report from the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom has just been released. Issued by a State Department advisory panel, the overview doesn't look good as repression, violence and killing of Christians for their faith is on the rise.

Here is a run down of the worst countries:

  • Russia—Legislation has targeted non-profit groups growing restrictions on the exercise of religion, especially in regional and local levels.
  • Turkey—Government actions that deny private property rights, and violence that doesn't stop, including the recent torture—and murder—of three Christians by Islamists.
  • Iraq—Over ½ of pre-invasion Christians have had to flee to Jordan or Syria. Muslim fundamentalists recently told Christian families to move, convert, pay protection money, or turn over a daughter for marriage.

A Higley High School student, Anthony Sciubba, was one of 13 students chosen to receive a special full page tribute in the yearbook. Sciubba is an honor student and school athlete.

On his tribute page, he credited God for his success, but his bio was changed without his knowledge to read that, "...he owed all his success to others."

Farmington High School Refuses to Recognize Christian Bible Club PDF Print Email

Secular clubs get special privilege on some high school campuses—while Christian clubs face discrimination.

A lawsuit has been filed on behalf of Aaron Grider who has been refused the right to form a Christian club.

The school recognizes many clubs, including the Gay Straight Alliance, R.E.A.C.H. (adversity club) and many more. Recognized groups advertise their meetings over the school's public address system, appear in the yearbook and receive other benefits.

The Thomas More Law Center filed the suit to change the school policy.

For more than 30 years, the Coptic Christians in Eqypt have been beaten, their churches looted, burned and destroyed and their homes and businesses have been attacked. Well over 4,000 Copts have been killed or injured and millions of dollars have been lost in property damage.

The latest attack was on Friday, May 11, 2007, in Bamha, 15 miles south of Cairo. It was a result of a rumor circulated among the Muslims that the Copts of the village were planning to convert a house, which they used (with the authorities' knowledge) for prayers, into a church.

Christian infidels

The Muslim worshippers were incited by the Imam against the "Christian infidels." A Muslim mob estimated to exceed 500, went on a rampage using fireballs, knives and hachets that resulted in burning 27 homes and shops owned by Copts.

At least 10 Copts, including several women, were injured; one of the victims is in a serious condition.

Pray for them and send the Egyptian ambassador in Washington, DC, Francis J. Ricciardone, Jr., an email of protest by This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Also, in Pakistan, a bill in the National Assembly could pass that demands death for men who convert from Islam and life in prison for women.

Please pray for Christians and the future of Evangelicals in Pakistan, as well as in Egypt.

And speaking of the ACLU.

As you may know, the ACLU sued to have the cross removed from Mt. Soledad near San Diego and on the Mojave Desert's Sunrise Rock.

Click the play button below to see an interesting video/song about removing the cross in Arlington Cemetery. My son tells me it's the most visited location in Washington, DC.

Reflection

"Get along among yourselves, each of you doing your part. Our counsel is that you warn the freeloaders to get a move on.

"Gently encourage the stragglers, and reach out for the exhausted, pulling them to their feet.

"Be patient with each person, attentive to individual needs. And be careful that when you get on each other's nerves you don't snap at each other.

"Look for the best in each other, and always do your best to bring it out. Be cheerful no matter what; pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens.

"This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live."

—1 Thessalonians 5:15–18
