Victory needed to protect freedom of speech

In a previous issue we discussed Rev. Walter Hoye in Oakland. Pastor Hoye’s ministry and calling has been to encourage those considering abortion to explore the alternatives and consequences.

He regularly—and peacefully—distributed literature in front of an abortion clinic and held a sign that read, “Jesus loves you and your baby. Let us help.”

Arrested for violating a new city ordinance to stop abortion protests, Rev. Hoye became a criminal.

Now he has been sentenced to 30 days in a county jail and a fine. The judge tried to give him probation if he agreed to stay 1,000 feet away from any clinic. He refused. The judge became so angry, he sent Rev. Hoye to jail immediately, regardless of an appeal.

Pray for him, the appeal and the larger issue of free speech.

What do you think? Should he have agreed to stay away and not gone to jail? Did he do the right thing? Email me at This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Christian beliefs ridiculed in the classroom

In a speech class, Los Angeles City College student Jonathan Lopez chose to talk about his Christian faith and traditional marriage.

In the middle of his presentation, his professor interrupted him, called him a “fascist bastard” in front of the class and refused to allow him to finish.

Asked about his grade, he was told to “ask God what your grade is.” To see a short video clip about this incident, click here.

Exercising their right to uphold personal morality

In a past issue we reported the San Diego firefighters who were forced, against their will, to participate in the 2007 “Pride” parade.

The four firefighters won their jury trial. The city has changed its policy to allow for moral objections for future parades.

Outrageous penalty for social service worker

A group home counselor was suspended for six weeks following a beach field trip. On the trip, four kids came across “surf jam” at the Huntington Beach pier.

For about 10 minutes, the kids heard Christian music from Switchfoot, “exposing children to unapproved religious activities.”

Kids lead prayer, coach can’t support them

The U.S. Supreme Court has rejected an appeal from a New Jersey high school football coach who wants to bow his head and kneel during prayers led by his players. Coach Marcus Borden was ordered not to pray with his team—and the Supreme Court agreed he could not express his religious beliefs with the kids.

Broken promises: The Anthony Adams recall PDF Print Email

Tuesday, 01 September 2009

As I mentioned in the last issue, the six Republicans who voted for the massive tax increase in this recession—against their promise and pledge not to do so—should be defeated in the next election.

One of these is Assemblyman Anthony Adams, whose district lies where my second home is in Lake Arrowhead.

We endorsed Adams based on his promise to us…and we were betrayed. I’d love to run against him myself.

I fully support the recall effort and encourage readers to contact RecallAdams.org to see how you can help.

Just Another Example of Wasted Taxpayer Money PDF Print Email

You won’t get a tax refund, but you will get a billboard

Despite the state budget crisis, your tax money is being used for billboards encouraging homosexuals, bisexuals and transsexuals to become adoptive parents.

One message reads, “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Family.”

The California Department of Social Services and the County of Los Angeles are partnering with the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. Odd.

Perhaps the partnership was helped along by the fact that the California Department of Social Services director, John Wagner, is on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation advisory board.

Government insanity—you can’t make this stuff up.

Hateful Anti-Christian Signs Multiply PDF Print Email

Across the America (and in England) atheist groups have been sponsoring anti-Christian signs, ads and displays.

  • The Washington State Governor permitted next to a nativity scene in the state’s Capital a lengthy message that read in part, “At this season of the winter solstice, may reason prevail. There are no gods, no devils, no angels, no heaven, and no hell.”
  • In Rancho Cucamonga, the billboard said, “Imagine No Religion,” evoking lyrics from John Lennon’s song.
  • In other cities billboards and bus signs read, “Reasons Greetings” and “Beware of Dogma.” The campaign is sponsored by Freedom from Religion Foundation.

Here is what I suggest:

  1. Please pray that God will use these lies and hate to turn hearts towards him
    (Romans 8:28).
  2. If God would lead you to sponsor a witness campaign, email me at This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it and I might be able to help you.

In Washington DC one family upset by the American Humane Association’s 200 city bus signs, raised $12,000 to put on 200 buses “why believe?” I created you and I love you, for goodness sake—God.

eHarmony Hurts Religious Liberty—and Shakes the Christian Community PDF Print Email

For many years I taught a large, growing singles group at my church. The Bible was the core of all my studies. But there were two books I used as guides for my single relationship studies:

  • Jim Talley’s Too Close Too Soon. Great on the principle of slowly growing a relationship and reducing the chances of emotional infatuation and sexual immorality.
  • Dr. Neal Clark Warren’s Finding the Love of Your Life. This book gives 10 principles of compatibility that help determine a potential lasting relationship.

So I found it exciting that Dr. Warren was so successful with the 2000 launch of his hugely popular and profitable eHarmony.com.

Can Homosexuals Stop Christians from Adopting Children? PDF Print Email

New foster care nightmares

God has put it on the heart of many Christians to be foster parents and touch the lives of distressed kids.

But now, the radical left homosexual lobby is thwarting healthy foster parenting by aggressively pushing for "hate crimes" and other laws that give homosexuals favored status and social engineering while suppressing freedom of thought, religion and speech.

For example, in the U.K., a Christian couple has been prohibited from serving as foster parents because they will not tell the kids that homosexuality is acceptable.

The wording of the law is similar to the current nondiscrimination employment law in Congress, which bans anyone who engages in discrimination based on sexual orientation from entering public service.
