A lawsuit has been filed against the Palmer School District on behalf of Erica Corder.

As a valedictorian, she was forced to publicly apologize for sharing her Christian faith at graduation.

After she spoke of her faith in Jesus Christ she was told she would not receive her diploma because of the commencement speech she gave. Later, they said she could receive it if she apologized to the school community. The principal sent out an email apology they helped her write.

Because this violated her 1st Amendment rights, the lawsuit seeks to have an email sent apologizing for her being forced to write an apology and that a future written policy be enacted so future students' free speech rights aren't infringed upon.

Reflection

"Get along among yourselves, each of you doing your part. Our counsel is that you warn the freeloaders to get a move on.

"Gently encourage the stragglers, and reach out for the exhausted, pulling them to their feet.

"Be patient with each person, attentive to individual needs. And be careful that when you get on each other's nerves you don't snap at each other.

"Look for the best in each other, and always do your best to bring it out. Be cheerful no matter what; pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens.

"This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live."

—1 Thessalonians 5:15–18
